Educators

You, as an educator, play a crucial role in teaching our children about sex.
You know and we know that many parents feel they do not have the knowledge to give their children the information they want them to have. While parents can and should share with their children their values regarding sexuality, it is up to you to provide the basics – medically correct facts, and tools to develop relationship- and interpersonal skills. We believe that it is also important that you, as educators, help our children develop their own values, attitudes and beliefs under the massive onslaught from media and peers. We also know, from the Georgia School Health Profile 2006, that many of you are unsatisfied with the training you are receiving to teach sex education and HIV/AIDS prevention.
Whether you are new to the subject or have been teaching for a long time, we hope to provide you with some useful resources. There are many resources for teachers out there that you know better than we do – what we would like to provide you with is the information we, as Georgia parents, have gathered during our 5 years of research into sex education, reproductive health and policies in the state of Georgia.
We also hope that you as a teacher will come to GPRHE. We would be happy to share whatever insights we have on the subject of sex education, but more importantly, we would be happy to talk to the parents. We can provide them with general and specific information about sex education, as well as sessions on how to talk to your kids about sex. Check out our Parent Section for more information.
