Sex Ed on the Net

Latest addition : September 8, 2009

We all know that the web is a major source of information

However, on the subject of sex, it can be tricky to find the sites that actually give you medically correct and useful information, and avoid the ones that not only will give your parents a fit, but often feed into all the urban legends out there.

Here are a number of good sites that are informative, useful and occasionally fun:

- I Wanna Know – What you wanna know about sex, sexual health, and sexually transmitted infections from the American Social Health Association (ASHA)

- MySistahs – website for young women of color that provide information and support on sexual and reproductive health issues

- Scarleteen – Sex Ed for the Real World

- Sex, etc. – Sex ed for teens by teens from Rutger University and Answer, a national organization providing and promoting comprehensive sexuality education

- Sexuality and U – information for teens from the Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists of Canada

- StayTeen.org – Teen website of the National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy

- TeensHealth - sexual health information from a large health care provider - Nemours. They also have a lot of other teen health information on their site

- Teen source – information for teens from the California Family Health Council

- Teen Talk – Teen website of Planned Parenthood (used to be called Teen wire)

- Your Rights as a Minor in Georgia - from the Georgia Campaign for Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention (G-CAPP)

- Youth Resource – a website by and for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and questioning (GLBTQ) youth from Advocates for Youth

BOOKS can sometimes be a much simpler way of getting the information you want, however technosavvy you are.

  • Answer (the parent site of Sex, etc.) has a list with useful books that you can find at the public library or for a reasonable amount ($10-15) on Amazon .
  • Sex,etc. has books under the Resources of each TOPIC like Girls’ Health or Guys’ Health
